Exam Waitlist Information

Waitlist Process

The Board has a maximum number of exams that we can offer during each part of an exam series. When that number is reached, we close registration and enable a waitlist. Following the registration deadline, we will combine all Sections B and D exams into one waitlist, Section C into one list, and the OCE into one list. These are the lists we use for determining order.

Occasionally, a candidate who has registered for an exam will need to withdraw from one or more exams. When that happens, we will reach out to the first eligible candidate on the waitlist. We let that person know when that exam slot will take place, and for which exam the slot is available. If you are notified, you will have 24 hours to respond and let us know if you wish to take that exam slot. You under no obligation to accept.

If you accept the exam slot, we will enable registration for you to pay for the exam. You will have another 24 hours from our confirmation to complete that step. If you decline, we will remove you from the waitlist for the exam offered. If you do not respond to our message, or you do not complete the registration within the 24-hour limits, we will move to the next eligible candidate for that exam. This is to ensure that we are filling as many spaces as possible.

We’ve included some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) below, but if you have any additional questions, please reach out to exams@abpros.org.

FAQs

When will I know when a spot opens up?
We only have a spot open when someone withdraws from an exam, so we don’t know beforehand. We follow the protocol above if and when a space opens up.

How long is the waitlist open?
We will continue to ask candidates right up to the exams themselves. While we’re aware that the ability for many to show up to an exam with very late notice is small, we will still ask. We’ll ask until either we have no spaces available, or we have asked each eligible candidate on the list, and they have declined.

Can I request a different timeslot?
Unfortunately, no. Once the schedule is set, we cannot change it, so you will need to be available for the exam at the time offered.

What number am I on the waitlist?
We are unable to provide that information.

I’ve been offered an exam slot, how do I register?
If you’re able to take an exam slot that was offered to you and wish to do so, let us know right away by responding to the email we send. We’ll then enable registration on your ABP Dashboard. We’ll inform you once enabled, and you’ll then see that specific exam on your dashboard. You can complete registration and pay the exam fee.

I got an exam slot and registered, where do I go to take the exam?
The exams will take place at the Hyatt Regency DFW in Dallas, TX. It is at Terminal C at the airport itself. Please note: there are two Hyatts at the DFW Airport. Please ensure you are headed to the Hyatt Regency.

When will I know who my examiners are?
You’ll find out your examiners when you greet them at the exam.

If I don’t get a spot for this exam, will my waitlist spot carry over to the next series of exams?
No. Each exam is self-contained. Registration for the next exams typically opens just after the current exams are complete, so please be on the lookout on your dashboard for when those become available.

For the OCE, I took my Section A exam almost ten years ago. If I don’t get a spot for this exam, does being on the waitlist mean I am still eligible for the next series of exams?
No. The QE/Section A exam must be completed within ten years of the OCE. If you do not end up securing a spot for this exam, you will be required to take the QE before you may register for the OCE again. Please bear this in mind for planning purposes, as the QE is only offered once each Spring.
