The American Board of Prosthodontics values a diplomate’s desire to practice prosthodontics at the highest level and their commitment to constantly reevaluate their practices considering the most recent scientific evidence. Maintaining active status demonstrates a diplomate’s commitment to professionalism, lifelong learning, assessment, and improvement.

This specialty cannot exist without its Diplomates.

Member Benefits

The ABP offers several benefits for its Active Diplomates:

  1. ABP Diplomates may be verified by third parties using our official verification system, providing seamless access for those who need Primary Source Verifications for business, employment, additional privileges, or promotion.
  2. Access to online store for Diplomate-specific products
  3. The opportunity to become a Fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists (FACP)
  4. Help shape the future of the organization by voting for future Board examiners

Annual Fees

Diplomates are required to maintain their membership with the ABP by paying an annual fee. Membership fees are payable online at www.abpros.org on or before December 31 for the succeeding year. Diplomates who have not paid their dues on time will start to incur penalties. If dues and penalties remain unpaid, members will ultimately lose their membership login access, listing in the directory, eligibility for recertification or verification, and Diplomate status.

Member Dues

  • Active Diplomates: $425 per year
  • Active Life Diplomates: $100 per year

Continued Proficiency or Recertification

To achieve the lifelong learning goal, the ABP has developed a recertification process to maintain active status. Certificates of Diplomate status are issued for eight (8) year periods. All active Diplomates are required to undergo a process of continued proficiency (i.e., recertification) involving continuing education and a recertification examination. The following details the continued proficiency process that all Diplomates must undertake.

Summary

In order to maintain Active Diplomate status, all Diplomates, within each 8-year certification period, must:

  1. Maintain good standing with the ABP, including payment of annual dues.
  2. Accumulate and maintain records demonstrating at least two hundred forty (240) hours of continuing education and make these records available upon request by the Board; CE records are maintained by the Diplomate, and must be entered via the existing ABP online portal. The ABP no longer accepts submissions via mail or email.
  3. Successfully complete (score 70% correct or greater) one (1) recertification examination.

Late Fees, Inactive Status, and Paths to Reinstatement

Diplomates who do not complete their member dues by December 31 each year will be assessed penalties and will eventually be deactivated and lose access to Diplomate status and its benefits.

Penalties (all penalties are cumulative)

Active Diplomates

  • Grace Period: January 1–15 each year
  • Days late: 16–30 Days — $150
  • Days late: 30+ Days — additional $350

Active Life Diplomates

  • Grace Period: January 1–15 each year
  • Days late: 16–30 Days — $25
  • Days late: 30+ Days — additional $50

Late Diplomates will lose access to public member benefits on January 1 and will be considered delinquent. Any Diplomate who fails to complete dues payments by March 31 will no longer be considered an Active Diplomate, and their account will be disabled.

The Path to Reinstatement

Diplomates who do not complete their requirements for Active status in a timely manner are subject to deactivation and removal as an Active Diplomate. Those who wish to be reinstated may send a formal request to the Board, requesting the opportunity to complete the path to reinstatement. This path can vary, depending on your individual situation. In general, this path requires finishing all incomplete requirements, such as outstanding dues, penalties, or recertification requirements, if needed. After completing your formal request, the Board will provide your specific path.

Following this deadline, they are free to complete the required Qualifying Examination and Oral Certifying Examination to become a Diplomate once again.
