The ABP offers several benefits for its Active Diplomates:
Diplomates are required to maintain their membership with the ABP by paying an annual fee. Membership fees are payable online at www.abpros.org on or before December 31 for the succeeding year. Diplomates who have not paid their dues on time will start to incur penalties. If dues and penalties remain unpaid, members will ultimately lose their membership login access, listing in the directory, eligibility for recertification or verification, and Diplomate status.
Member Dues
To achieve the lifelong learning goal, the ABP has developed a recertification process to maintain active status. Certificates of Diplomate status are issued for eight (8) year periods. All active Diplomates are required to undergo a process of continued proficiency (i.e., recertification) involving continuing education and a recertification examination. The following details the continued proficiency process that all Diplomates must undertake.

The Path to Reinstatement
Diplomates who do not complete their requirements for Active status in a timely manner are subject to deactivation and removal as an Active Diplomate. Those who wish to be reinstated may send a formal request to the Board, requesting the opportunity to complete the path to reinstatement. This path can vary, depending on your individual situation. In general, this path requires finishing all incomplete requirements, such as outstanding dues, penalties, or recertification requirements, if needed. After completing your formal request, the Board will provide your specific path.

If a Diplomate is more than two years overdue with any dues payment, they are not eligible to complete this path to reinstatement. However, they are free to complete the required Qualifying Examination and Oral Certifying Examination to become a Diplomate once again.
If a Diplomate has not completed all requirements within the eight years of their cycle, they are not eligible to complete this path to reinstatement. A Diplomate will have a grace period to March 31 of the subsequent year to complete any outstanding requirements (A maximum of 60 CEs may be taken during those 90 days). Following this deadline, they are free to complete the required Qualifying Examination and Oral Certifying Examination to become a Diplomate once again.
